Overview: Our Spoon & Utensil Carving Workshop takes your whittling and carving skills to the next level. In this hands-on session, you’ll learn the traditional craft of shaping functional items from green wood using safe knife techniques and specialist carving tools. Guided by experienced instructors, you’ll discover the joy of turning a simple piece of wood into a practical spoon, spatula, or other utensil to take home. This calming, creative course is perfect for anyone looking to deepen their carving practice, develop new skills, and connect with nature in a meaningful way. Duration: Full day - Start: 10am - Finish 5pm What you’ll learn: How to select and prepare green wood for utensil carving Safe use of carving knives, gouges, and hook knives Step-by-step spoon and utensil design, shaping, and hollowing techniques Smoothing and finishing methods for a polished, functional item Traditional knowledge and respect for natural resources Key outcomes: By the end of the workshop, you will: Confidently use carving tools to shape and hollow wood Create your own hand-carved spoon or utensil to take home Understand design considerations for functional wooden items Develop patience, precision, and mindfulness through craft Build on your whittling and tool skills with a focused project Who it’s for: This course is suitable for adults and older children with some prior whittling or knife-handling experience (such as our Wood Whittling Workshop). It’s ideal for anyone who enjoys hands-on creativity and wants to make something practical from natural materials.
